What is Presidents’ Day?

Presidents’ Day 2019 – One of the most important celebrations in the United States Presidents’ Day. It is a federal holiday in the U.S. and is celebrated every third Monday of February. The holiday is recognized by many as a celebration that provides credit to all US Presidents.

President’s Day and its origins

As reflected in the Online Britannica, Presidents’ Day was originally celebrated to commemorate the birthday of former U.S. President George Washington who was born on February 22, 1732. From that time on, Americans have been celebrating the commemoration of Washington’s Birthday. It was in the 19th century that the event was finally considered to be an official national holiday. It was also said that Presidents’ Day’s origin included the celebration of Abraham Lincoln, another former US president whose birthday also fell on the 12th of February.

In Washington, public programs are conducted with some speeches which usually come from government officials. According to many, this is not only a celebration of Washington and Lincoln but the event is also an epitome of the rich American history and the heroism of some of its past presidents. It construes how Americans pay tribute to the importance of its history and the people who were involved in making America what it is today.

Also, in celebrating President’s Day, many Americans take it as an opportunity to make the holiday a great time for quality bonding among family members and friends.
