What is Patriots’ Day?

Patriots’ Day 2019 – Patriots’ Day is a time for celebration among the people of Lexington and Concord. This festive event usually falls every third Monday of April. Event organizer of Patriots’ Day mentioned that the event should not be confused with the Patriot Day which is being held every 11th of September in commemoration of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

In an explanation from the Tour Lexington, it was cited that the Patriots’ Day is in honor of the heroes and patriots who fought on Lexington Green on 19 April 1775. To recall, the eastern part of the United States was under British colonization. It was on 19 April 1775 that the Americans fought its colonizers where they defeated the United Kingdom. That historical event was dubbed as the American Revolution or also known as the American War of Independence.

The Time and Date mentioned that the first battles conducted under the American Revolution were in the places of Lexington and Concord, near the area of Boston, Massachusetts. Meanwhile, in 2008, an act was amended in Tennessee in relation to the Patriots’ Day celebration. The amendment included that the Patriots’ Day is an official holiday in the state and the proclamation of 19 April as the celebration for such.

The Patriots’ Day is being marked with various celebrations and street festivities. There are no school classes and government offices during this day as this is declared as a state holiday. Most business establishments are opened, however, in order to cater to the people who visit Lexington and Concord for the event. There are also street parades and the popular Liberty Ride. There are also sports events such as road races and marathons.

One major highlight of Patriots’ Day is the re-enactment of the Battle of Lexington. It is being re-enacted by members of the His Majesty’s Tenth Regiment Foot and the Lexington Minute Men Company. The re-enactment of the historic Battle of Lexington usually starts early in the morning. It brings back the people on the high-spirited American Revolution wherein many Americans offered their lives to free America from its British colonizers.

Patriots’ Day is also being considered by many as a great time to celebrate the patriotism of many American heroes who fought during the American Revolution. It is the time of the year to honor their bravery and love for the country.
