What is Father’s Day?
Father’s Day 2019 – Dad, Daddy, Pops, Papa, Father; those are the terms of endearment we often call our beloved fathers. He is the sole provider of the family, the one that often comes together in fishing, football, basketball games and any other outdoor fun activities and the one that is protective of their daughters and of their whole family. They surely deserve a day of commemoration, relaxation and pampering on this once a year tribute to all the fathers, grandfathers and father figure like all the responsible men out there. Father’s day is not just a celebration, it is more than the cakes, the presents, the hugs, the thoughtful cards or anything material, it is a day of opportunity for the sons and daughters to let their fathers feel loved and appreciated.
Father’s day is celebrated every third week of June to complement Mother’s day, which is celebrated every 2nd week of May. This event started June 19, 1910 when a daughter realizes that her Dad is a one, unselfish, hardworking father for them.
Living in Spokane, Washington, Sonora Louise Smart Dodd invented the idea in 1909. When her mother died after delivering her 6th sibling, her father, a war veteran, William Smart, became a single parent, raising all his 6 children alone, dedicated his life for the sake of his kids. The initial set for the date was supposed to be on the first week of June, close to her father’s birthday; however, it happened in the aforementioned date and was sealed by President Lyndon Johnson in 1966. After 60 years, President Richard Nixon officially proclaimed it as a national holiday. There are different calendar dates that mark this event, but it has been strongly observed in most of the countries.
It is common nowadays that the celebration of Father’s day is well observed. Greeting cards promoting this day for Dads out there seem to be very special, together with the gifts that Fathers will surely appreciate. With their masculinity, some gifts like tools for carpenters, gardening and all this stuff that they actually enjoy might be on the top of the list, but remember, it’s the thought that counts!
A simple greeting with hugs and kisses and a genuine message of love can soften the heart of the man of the house. Love, appreciation and respect are more than enough to make them happy and feel complete for their one special day, so make sure to not forget to mark your calendars for this event.
